Louisiana currently has 122,000 homes being built, with another 380,000 homes and rental units in need of repair. And our aggressive incentives, like the ones offered in our Gulf Opportunity Zone Program, make building a home for your business easier than ever.

No economic sector was more affected by the 2005 hurricane season than the construction industry. As a result of the destruction, Louisiana is experiencing an unprecedented construction boom and is poised to become a global center of construction technology.

There are commercial modernization and expansion needs statewide, and infrastructure needs including major repairs to roads and utilities.

Residential construction will be spurred by Louisiana's $9 billion Road Home program, which is the largest single housing recovery program in U.S. history. Through the program, eligible homeowners affected by Hurricane Katrina or Rita can receive up to $150,000 to repair and reinhabit their homes.

The skilled worker licensing process in Louisiana is similar to that of other states. Also, Louisiana has reciprocal license agreements with several states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Utah.
