Legal Division

The Legal Division provides legal services to LED’s Secretary and other offices and employees of the department. These services include the preparation, negotiation and review of contracts related to the department’s programs and cooperative endeavor agreements in collaboration with other state agencies, political subdivisions of the state and private businesses.

Once completed, the division works with LED’s assigned contract monitors, when necessary, in administering the agreements. The division also drafts and promulgates rules and regulations as provided by statutory law for the department’s programs.

Additionally, the Legal Division assists in administering LED’s programs and policies in the following areas:

  • Louisiana business retention, expansion and prospective development
  • Departmental initiatives and sponsorship of policies and practices, as well as state and federal legislation for the purposes of retaining, expanding and developing Louisiana businesses
  • Education to the department and staff to assist in the performance of their duties and responsibilities
  • Public education and information on federal and state opportunities for business startups, growth and capitalization
  • Public education and information on Louisiana transactional law and litigation law and its effect upon Louisiana business retention, expansion and prospective development
  • Administration and coordination of litigation involving LED or its programs and initiatives
